Sound for the whole backyard
Trophy Club, Texas · Pool, patio & pergola audio
A two-zone audio retrofit in Trophy Club, designed around the way the homeowner uses the patio, grill, hot tub, and pool. Seven speakers and an in-ground subwoofer bring sound closer to each listening area, with simple phone control.

The problem started at the back door
The previous system concentrated its speakers near the back door. To hear music from the pool, the homeowner had to turn them almost all the way up, leaving the areas closest to the house much louder than the rest of the yard. When that system failed, the replacement needed to solve the coverage problem as well as restore the music.
The brief was straightforward: distribute sound across the pool and patio, choose equipment with long-term reliability in mind, and keep everyday control simple.
Designed around where people spend time

Under the covered patio, two in-ceiling speakers put music and TV audio above the seating area. Their placement keeps the sound close to the people using that space.
The homeowner also watches TV while cooking at the grill. A JBL speaker mounted above the grill brings the TV audio into that spot, so listening can continue as they move between the seating area and the outdoor kitchen.

The pool area uses three landscape speakers positioned around its edge, plus an in-ground subwoofer. Spreading the speakers around the listening area reduces the need to project all the sound from the house.
Speaker direction mattered as much as location. The pool speakers were angled to limit sound spilling back toward the patio. A second mounted JBL speaker points down toward the hot tub, helping distinguish the pool listening area from the patio.
New wiring through a finished backyard
There was no existing speaker wiring to reuse, and a roof valley prevented direct attic access above the patio. We used the new ceiling-speaker openings to retrieve pull strings from the accessible attic, then draw cable across from the opposite side of the house.
For the pergola and pool area, cable passed through two soffit openings and followed discreet exterior routes. Trenches between the planting beds carried wiring to the landscape speakers. In total, the installation involved more than 700 feet of cabling and wiring.
Once connected, the system was calibrated to balance the listening areas and smooth the transition between them.
Simple controls, two listening zones

The two-zone system combines a Denon AVR for the patio and pergola with a dedicated JBL 70V amplifier for the pool system. This distributed approach supports the speakers placed around the yard.
HEOS integration and AirPlay provide phone-based music control. The technical work sits behind that everyday experience: choose the music, set the volume, and use the backyard.
A backyard with sound where it is used
The completed installation brings audio to the covered seating area, grill, hot tub, and pool. TV sound reaches the outdoor kitchen, music is distributed around the water, and the system can be controlled from a phone.
The result reflects the choices made before installation: speaker positions based on how the homeowner spends time outside, careful aiming between adjacent areas, and new wiring worked into an existing finished space.
After the audio project, the homeowner returned to Bound AV for a further addition: a 65-inch Sylvox Deck Pro 3.0 TV.
